Monday Travel Trends: The 2026 Brief

A weekly exploration of the shifting landscape in luxury travel.

From 'Hushpitality' to the rise of the Solo Female Explorer, we decode the trends of today to help you design the 'Whycations' of tomorrow.

The Ultimate "Whycation": Why Libraries Should Center Your Next Travel Destination

We’ve all been there: you land in a new city, pull up a generic top-ten list on your phone, and spend the day ticking boxes. You saw the monument, you stood in the massive line, you took the photo. But did you actually feel the pulse of the place?

When I talk about a Whycation—traveling with a deep sense of purpose and curiosity—we are looking for the soul of a destination. And if you want to find the soul of any city, town, or culture, you don’t look at its tourist traps.

I believe you should look at its libraries.

Centering your travel itinerary around libraries isn't just for card-carrying bibliophiles. It’s the ultimate travel hack for anyone seeking a deeper connection to the world. Here is why the library should be the very first stop on your next journey.

1. They Are the Cultural DNA of a Community

A city tells you exactly what it values by how it houses its stories. When you step into a library, you are stepping into a community’s collective memory. From ancient dusty books to soaring, futuristic glass walls, these spaces show you how a culture views knowledge, history, and beauty. Want to know what makes a city tick? Look at what they choose to preserve.

2. The Architecture is Mind-Blowing (and Inspiring)

Some of the world’s most breathtaking architectural masterpieces aren't museums or palaces—they’re libraries. You can wander through baroque dreamscapes, gothic vaults, or cutting-edge modern marvels. They offer a sensory, grounding experience that immediately connects you to the design language and history of the region.

3. They Act as Your Hyper-Local Activity Compass

Libraries are living, breathing community hubs. By centering your trip around a historic or neighborhood library, you instantly unlock the real vibe of the area. The neighborhoods surrounding them are almost always vibrant, walkable districts filled with independent coffee shops, local art, and historic architecture.

Beyond the Search Bar: The Google Trap vs. The True Experience

Here is the truth: anyone can Google "world's most beautiful libraries" and find a list of famous photo-ops.

But a Google search won't get you past the velvet ropes. It won’t grant you private access to historic reading rooms closed to the general public, and it certainly won't unlock the restricted archives where the real history hides.

A search engine can give you a destination, but it can’t give you the unique stories, the exclusive entry, or the curated conversations with the local communities who bring those walls to life.

How We Travel Differently: The next time you're dreaming of a trip, I want you to start the conversation by saying: "Hey, I found this incredible library in Dublin (or Prague, or Tokyo)—but I want the Gilded Page version. Give me the behind-the-scenes access, the hidden stories, and the connection to the local culture."

That is the difference between simply visiting a place and actually turning the pages of it. That is the heart of a Whycation.

If this way of looking at the world makes your inner explorer sit up a little straighter, you’ve found your people.

I am officially building The Gilded Page—a brand-new community of curious travelers, history buffs, and book lovers who believe that travel should leave you changed. We aren't interested in crowded tour buses; we’re interested in shared discoveries.

Through our curated Literary Field Trips, we bring this philosophy to life in real-time. When you join a Gilded Page group trip, you aren't just getting an itinerary. You’re getting:

  • Built-in Camraderie: Traveling alongside a small, curated group of people who share your curiosity and zest for deep-dive learning.
  • The Ultimate VIP Access: The private archives, the closed-door reading rooms, and the expert-led  discussions we talked about—completely organized for you.
  • A New Way to Connect: Coming home not just with souvenirs, but with stories and friendships forged over shared wonder.

The chapters are being written right now, and the next departure list is forming.

Until our next journey,

Cathy

This Week in Travel: Beyond the Aesthetic - Why 2026 is the Year of the "Soul-First" Vacation

Have you ever come home from a vacation feeling like you needed another vacation?  I have.

In a world dominated by perfectly curated Instagram feeds, it’s easy to get caught up in the "look" of a trip. We rush from iconic photo op to crowded landmark, checking boxes instead of actually catching our breath.

But a massive shift is happening in the travel industry. Travelers are experiencing "aesthetic fatigue," and they are turning toward something much deeper: Intentional, soul-first travel.

If you are looking to feed your spirit rather than just your social media grid, two powerful trends are defining how we explore right now.

Trend #1: The "Whycation"

Traditionally, travel planning starts with a map: Where should I go? A "Whycation" completely flips the script. It starts with an emotional inventory: Why do I need to leave home right now?

  • The Intent: This isn’t just about escaping your life or shutting off your phone. It’s about active enrichment. It’s for the traveler who wants to dive headfirst into a highly specific curiosity—whether that's heritage textile weaving, studying traditional apiculture (beekeeping) from a local master, or learning the tactile art of hand-bookbinding in a historic European workshop.
  • The Experience: Instead of choosing a destination because it’s trendy, select the location, pacing, and style of travel purely to serve your inner emotional needs. The destination becomes a canvas for your personal interests.

Trend #2: The Gilded Page & Literary Field Trips

The second trend challenges the idea that we always need to collect new passport stamps to have a breakthrough experience. Instead, travelers are taking a longer, closer look at favorite destinations they’ve already visited—often viewed through a rich, literary lens.

  • The Intent: When the pressure of the "must-see" tourist checklist is completely gone, a quiet question creeps in: How do I experience a place I love with fresh eyes? Travelers are designing itineraries entirely around the written word—booking nature cabins for dedicated "readaways," tracing the exact steps of beloved authors, or spending afternoons lost in independent global bookstores.
  • The Experience: Books give a destination a layered emotional history. This is the ultimate antidote to rushed tourism. Imagine spending an entire afternoon tucked away in a sunlit corner of an independent global bookstore, or using a favorite book as your literal map to trace the steps of an author through neighborhoods you thought you knew. By slowing down the itinerary and allowing for generous blocks of unscripted time, a familiar city reveals entirely new layers. You stop just visiting a place and start living inside it.

Ready to Find Your "Why"?

Travel shouldn’t be a performance; it should be a return to yourself. The next time you feel the itch to pack a bag, don't open an app to see what's trending. Close your eyes and ask yourself what your soul is craving.

Let’s craft your next chapter. As your travel advisor, I don't just book trips—I help you curate experiences that align with your life.

Let’s connect to discover the "Why" behind your next getaway.

Until our next journey,

Cathy

This Week in Travel: Rediscovering a City You've Already Visited

The Art of the Intentional Wander

We’ve all been there. You land in a city you love for the second, third, or fourth time. The pressure of the "must-see" checklist is gone. You don't need to fight the crowds at the main landmarks. But a quiet question creeps in: How do I experience this place with fresh eyes? The trend for 2026 isn't about collecting new passport stamps just for the sake of it; it's about deep-diving into familiar destinations and uncovering the hidden layers most tourists walk right past.

When you look at a city through a different lens, specifically a literary one, the geography changes completely.  A generic neighborhood suddenly becomes the stomping ground of a 1920s expat writer.  A quiet park becomes the exact bench where a masterpiece was penned.

To truly explore a repeat destination, you have to move past the postcards and start reading between the lines.

There is a distinct difference between walking aimlessly and engaging in an intentional wander.  One is just passing time; the other is an intentional choice with a city

The Art of the Intentional Wander

When you look at a city through a literary lens, you aren't rushing to catch a museum time-slot.  Instead, you find yourself stepping into gorgeous, vaulted buildings where the outside noise fades - replaced by the whisper of turning pages.   You allow yourself the luxury of time to spend perusing the shelves, running your fingers across weathered book spines, pulling down volumes in languages you might not even speak just to admire the craft of the cover.

The magic happens when you find that perfect sunlit quiet nook.  With book in hand, you split your attention between the pages and the place, reading a few lines then looking up to watch the world and its people pass by.  You are no longer a spectator looking at a city's facade; you are tucked inside its lived in spaces.

Three Ways to Rediscover a Familiar City

  • Ditch the Main Streets for Independent Bookstores.  Skip the souvenir shops.  The true heartbeat of a city's modern culture lives in its historic libraries and independent bookstores.  They are community hubs where locals gather.
  • Follow a Single Narrative.  Pick a book set in the city and let is be your map for a day.  Eat where the characters ate; walk the paths they walked.
  • Slow Down the Itinerary.  Instead of checking off five neighborhoods in a day, spend an entire afternoon reading in a local cafe or botanical garden, soaking in the rhythm of the city around you.

If you're ready to turn your next return trip into a brand-new chapter, you don't have to do the research alone.  I've been quietly building something for the traveler who wants more.

My curated Literary Field Guides are designed to help you decode familiar cities through the stories, authors, and hidden spaces that define them.  And for those who want to experience this magic in real time with a community of fellow story-lovers, my exclusive Gilded Page trips interest list is coming soon.

Let's stop just visiting places and start living inside them.

Until our next journey,

Cathy

This Week in Travel: Travelling for the Love of the Craft

We have all been there. You stand in a three-hour line, crane your neck over a sea of selfie sticks, and catch a fleeting, obstructed glimpse of a famous monument—looking at you, Mona Lisa. You cross it off the list, perhaps with a photo that features more strangers' hands holding cellphones than actual art. But as you walk away, you’re left with a nagging question: Did I actually experience this place, or did I just verify that it exists?

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about a different kind of travel. It’s a philosophy built around community pride and shared obsession.

When we step away from the traditional, expected tourist heavyweights, we find spaces that weren't built for mass consumption. Instead, we find places built out of pure, localized love—monuments to human passion, preservation, and craft.

If you want to truly understand the soul of a destination, you don’t look at its most crowded plazas. You look at what its locals choose to protect, perfect, and pass down.

The Magic of the "Niche" Journey

Think about the spaces that capture human knowledge or artistry. It’s funny how we compartmentalize things; someone might happily spend a weekend at home reading about the complex architecture of a beehive, yet when they pack a suitcase for Italy or France, they don't even think to ask, "Hey, is there a generational beekeeper nearby I can visit?" But when you travel to explore a highly specific interest or a hands-on hobby, the entire rhythm of your trip changes. You aren't a passive spectator anymore; you become a temporary insider.

Imagine designing a journey around passions like these:

  • The Heritage Apiarist: Imagine studying the delicate science of traditional apiculture (beekeeping) from a master keeper in a hidden valley. You aren't buying a generic jar of honey from a airport gift shop; you are learning how the unique regional soil and wildflowers create a flavor profile that exists nowhere else on Earth. You are sharing a passion with someone keeping a vital ecosystem alive.

  • The Art of the Book: Instead of just looking at books behind glass, imagine spending time in a historic European workshop, learning the tactile, meditative art of hand-bookbinding. You work with local leather, use specific regional marbling techniques, and sit shoulder-to-shoulder with artisans who are keeping a centuries-old lineage alive.

  • The Living Earth: Imagine a trip designed around community archaeology. Not just walking through a cordoned-off ruin, but joining local historians and preservationists at an active, community-led dig site. You brush away the soil yourself, learning the history of a town directly from the people whose ancestors built it.

Why It Matters: Traveling with Intention

When you travel to immerse yourself in a craft or a specific field of study, something beautiful happens: you automatically bypass the tourist traps.

You find yourself in quiet neighborhoods, historic monastic libraries, or rural workshops. Your dollars directly support local academics, independent artisans, and grassroots historians. Most importantly, you interact with locals who are genuinely thrilled that you care about the exact same niche thing they do.

The next time you sit down to plan a trip, I challenge you to leave the "Top 10" lists behind. Ask yourself: What craft, what history, or what beautiful corner of human knowledge do I want to touch? Find the people who love that thing the most, and let them guide you.

Until our next journey,

Cathy

This Week in Travel: The Canvas of Connection – Whycations for Art Lovers

If you’ve ever stood in front of a painting and felt the world around you completely melt away, you already understand that art isn't just something to look at—it’s an emotional landscape.

Whether you spend your weekends with a paintbrush in hand or your weekends are dedicated to exploring your local museum's newest exhibits, your passion for creativity is a powerful compass

This week, we are diving into a beautifully vibrant kind of Whycation: travel designed entirely for art lovers. Art travel is booming, but a cookie-cutter museum tour with a crowded group and a crackling headset isn't true luxury. Real luxury is aligning your journey with how you want to experience that creative spark.

Here is how we weave your artistic passions with some of the world’s most elite travel brands to craft the ultimate art-infused Whycations.

1. The Collaborative Studio: Group Tours for Like-Minded Creators

For the traveler who wants to share the joy of discovery, joining a premium, boutique cohort of fellow art enthusiasts is pure magic. This isn't about rushing through galleries; it’s about shared inspiration.

  • The Preferred Partner: We look to highly specialized, curator-led curators like Adventures in Art or Artful Jaunts, as well as premium operators like Insight Vacations for their Special Interest tracks.
  • The Experience: Imagine traveling with an intimate group to the artistic hubs of Santa Fe, New Mexico, or tracing the masters through the Italian Lake District. These journeys combine five-star accommodations and fine dining with exclusive, behind-the-scenes access—like private collector home visits, curator-led tours at landmarks like Crystal Bridges, and after-hours entry to elite exhibitions.
  • The Whycation ROI: You skip the logistical fatigue and immediately gain a built-in "art tribe." Your days are spent discussing brushwork over local wine, and you return home not just with inspiration, but with lifelong global friendships.

2. The Creative Sanctuary: The Stress-Free Solo Escape

Sometimes, the ultimate luxury is space. For the solo traveler, art is a deeply personal conversation between the canvas and the soul, requiring an environment of deliberate quiet.

  • The Preferred Partner: Globus and their brilliant Choice Touring framework, or premium private land journeys where we design around local artisan pockets.
  • The Experience: A solo-friendly journey designed to let you set your own pace. With Choice Touring, you have the safety net of an expertly managed tour, but your days are entirely customizable. You can choose a structured architectural walk in a historic city one day, or opt for completely unscripted "Me-Time" the next—giving you four uninterrupted hours to sketch in a sleepy seaside village or find your creative center.
  • The Whycation ROI: This is a mental reset focused on sensory recalibration. We leverage our strategic partners to handle your transfers and safety nets seamlessly, leaving you entirely free to wander without anyone else's schedule rushing your eye.

3. The Floating Atelier: Immersion and Pampering for River Cruisers

For those who want deep cultural immersion but refuse to sacrifice five-star, white-glove comfort, the world's historic waterways offer the ultimate luxury art canvas.

  • The Preferred Partner: Uniworld Boutique River Cruises or AmaWaterways.
  • The Experience: Gliding down the Seine or the Danube on a luxury floating boutique hotel. Consider a voyage like Uniworld’s Burgundy & Provence, where you step directly into the landscapes that inspired Van Gogh, Cézanne, and Gauguin. By day, you enjoy bespoke shore excursions, like an immersive art show projected onto the walls of a historic limestone quarry or a VIP visit to local artisan workshops. By night, you return to a ship featuring museum-quality art right on the walls, locally sourced culinary mastery, and flawless butler service.
  • The Whycation ROI: Total pampering meets artistic depth. You unpack just once, letting the roots of European art history float past your French balcony in a completely secure, social, yet deeply indulgent environment.

💡 L&C Travel Tip: The Art is in the Access

True luxury in art travel isn't just buying a ticket; it’s about "Maker Proximity." When planning your art Whycation, look beyond the main gallery walls. We specialize in finding the hidden artist cooperatives, securing private studio visits with local contemporary painters, and booking guides who specialize in exact historical niches. That is where the real stories hide.

Let’s Sketch Out Your Next Chapter

Are you ready to stop looking at art on a screen and start living it in the real world? Whether your "Why" for this season is finding your creative community, reclaiming your personal peace, or floating through history in total comfort, your travel deserves to be an investment in your personal narrative.

This Week in Travel: The Authors Who Move Us

If you noticed a bit of radio silence from me yesterday, it’s because I was practicing exactly what we preach here at L&C: I was deep in a travel day, experiencing the world firsthand! But a day's delay won't stop our Monday Travel Trends series.

This week, we are diving into a beautifully specific kind of Whycationtravel driven by pure, unapologetic passion for our favorite stories.

We often talk about literary pilgrimages in terms of classic literature—the classic Jane Austen trips through the English countryside (which we love, don't get us wrong!). But there is an entirely different, incredibly vibrant world of travel being sparked by modern historical fiction and historical romance. Women are packing their bags to step directly into the atmospheric worlds crafted by their absolute favorite authors.

If you've ever closed a book and immediately wanted to book a flight to the setting, you are our people. Here are three incredible, author-driven journeys that go far beyond the standard Regency tour.

1. The Highland Romance: Beyond the Pages of Diana Gabaldon or Julie Garwood

For readers who love the sweeping, rugged romance of the Scottish Highlands, traveling to Scotland isn’t just a vacation—it’s an emotional homecoming. Standing on the misty shores of Loch Ness or walking through the historic stone corridors of Stirling Castle allows you to feel the pulse of the history that inspires these epic tales.

2. Glitz, Glamour, and Secrets: The Historical Worlds of Kate Quinn or Fiona Davis

If your reading tastes lean toward the high-stakes, brilliant women of the 20th century—like the codebreakers in Kate Quinn’s The Rose Code or the historic architectural mysteries of Fiona Davis’s New York novels—your perfect trip looks like a deep dive into urban history. Imagine private, curated tours of Bletchley Park outside London, or a historic architecture crawl through the hidden corners of Manhattan's iconic landmarks.

3. Evocative, Sun-Drenched Escapes: The Sagas of Kristin Harmel or Elena Ferrante

Sometimes a book captures the sensory experience of a place so perfectly you can taste it. Fans of Kristin Harmel’s emotionally rich wartime novels crave the cobblestones and hidden bakeries of Paris, while lovers of Elena Ferrante’s Neapolitan Novels want to feel the gritty, glorious, chaotic energy of Naples, Italy.

💡 L&C Travel Tip: Look Past the Fiction

When planning a trip based on historical romance or fiction, remember that authors often blend real history with fictional geography (or use fictionalized town names based on real regions). Before you book, research the exact historic properties, castles, or preservation trusts that inspired the author during their writing process. That is where the real magic hides.

Can you book a hotel room in Scotland or Paris on your own?  Of course!  But a true author-driven Whycation requires an insider who understand the vibe of the books you love.

When you work with me, we aren't just booking logistics; we are translating your favorite chapters into real-world experiences. Because of our deep industry connections, I can secure exclusive access that isn't available to the general public—whether that’s arranging a private after-hours tour of a historic estate, booking a guide who specializes in the exact historical niche of your favorite novel, or finding that boutique hotel that feels exactly like the manor house on the cover.

Your passion for your favorite authors deserves more than a cookie-cutter itinerary. Let’s design a journey that lets you live the story.

Until our next journey

This Week in Travel: Intentional Journeys - The Power of Remembrance & History in Women’s Travel

Yesterday, our usual Monday travel space was intentionally quiet. As we observed Memorial Day, I took the time to step away from the digital noise to pause, reflect, and remember the profound sacrifices made by those who have fought and defended our freedoms.

This reflection brought me back to my own journey through Normandy on an AmaWaterways river cruise. Standing on those hallowed grounds was a profoundly moving experience. The ability to visit those silent spaces and deeply honor the memory of those who served—while uncovering the real, human stories of those who walked before us—was a beautifully reflective moment. It was a space where I found myself deeply appreciating the weight of history, while simultaneously reflecting on the current events of the world around us today.

In the spirit of that journey, this week we are focusing on a deeply meaningful shift in how women are choosing to explore the world: Remembrance and Historical Travel. More than just a sightseeing trip, this is about traveling with purpose. These journeys are meant to be somber but not sad—they are filled with a quiet reverence, a profound sense of gratitude, and an appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit.

The Rise of "Quiet Luxury" in Historical Landscapes

For the modern woman, an intentional journey centered around history offers a unique way to recalibrate. Standing on a silent battlefield, walking through a preserved historic city, or visiting a monument isn't just an educational experience—it’s an emotional one. We call these "Whycations"—travel experiences completely designed around why you need to get away, rather than just where you are going.

We are seeing a beautiful trend emerge where women are pairing these deep historical explorations with the concept of quiet luxury—where the value lies not in flashiness, but in understatement, privacy, and impeccable, personalized details. It’s an approach to travel that whispers rather than shouts, making it accessible in feeling, regardless of how you choose to customize your itinerary.

Here is how this intentional blend is coming to life:

  • Boutique River Cruises Through Historic Europe: Much like my own experience, gliding down rivers like the Seine or the Danube to visit historic fortifications and landing beaches. The focus is on intimate ship sizes, locally sourced culinary artistry, and moments of deep, quiet reflection on deck.
  • Curated Living History Tours: Immersive journeys focused on the preservation of heritage, visiting landmarks, and hearing the untold stories of heroism—particularly the often-overlooked roles women played in defending freedom throughout history.
  • "Hushpitality" in Historic Spaces: Swapping digital noise for natural soundscapes and the heavy elegance of historic architecture. It’s about properties that offer an atmosphere of deliberate silence, allowing travelers the peace of mind to absorb the weight and beauty of the past without distraction.

From Reflection to Reality: Tailoring Your Journey

Crafting an itinerary that balances the somber weight of history with restorative, elevated comfort requires a delicate touch. True elegance is found in being seen—and in these types of journeys, it means ensuring you have the emotional space to process the experience.

Because everyone's definition of comfort looks a little different, I specialize in tailoring these experiences to fit you perfectly. Whether that means securing a beautifully appointed standard room with access to all our core historical tours, or upgrading your journey to include upgraded views and ultra-private, exclusive after-hours historical encounters, your experience will feel entirely bespoke. I handle the exhausting research; your only job is to show up and connect.

A New Chapter: Travel With Me

Because these experiences are so profound, they are often best shared in the company of like-minded women who value community, history, and reflection as much as you do.

I am incredibly excited to share that I am putting together a series of "Travel With Me" experiences. I will be stepping into the role of your host and guide, bringing groups of women together to embark on these intentional, history-forward journeys.

The beauty of these hosted trips is their flexibility. We will share a beautifully curated core itinerary, building a tight-knit community as we explore these sacred spaces together. However, you will also have the opportunity to customize your level of investment—allowing you to opt into premium, highly exclusive tracks and unique private events tailored just for you.

Together, we will explore, honor our past, and support one another through shared, unforgettable moments.

Want to be the first to know?

If the idea of a curated, history-focused journey hosted by me resonates with your "Why," let's connect. Drop your details below to join the priority waitlist for my upcoming "Travel With Me" itineraries and be the first to see the customizable package options.

Until our next journey

Monday Travel Trends: The Rise of the "Sisterhood of Traveling Strangers"

There is a massive cultural shift happening in luxury travel right now. Women are no longer waiting for schedules, partners, or friend groups to align before booking their dream itineraries. Instead, I am seeing a surge in premium, boutique "join-in" communities—where women intentionally sign up to travel solo, specifically to connect with a curated group of like-minded strangers.

What it Means for You

For the sophisticated female traveler, this means the end of putting your bucket list on hold. However, it also means navigating a crowded market. Joining a generic, mass-market tour group risks an mismatched demographic, rigid itineraries, and a lack of privacy.

True luxury in this space means finding small, high-vibe cohorts where the logistics are flawless, the accommodations are five-star, and the safety is absolute.

We often think of a vacation as an escape from people, but this trend is a "Whycation" centered entirely on connection.

  • The Problem: Women often face a unique kind of isolation or find themselves in a "friendship rut" where everyone is too busy with corporate or family life to plan a getaway.
  • The Shift: This isn’t about traveling alone because you want to be alone. It’s about traveling solo to show up as your truest self, unburdened by your daily roles, and leaving with a lifelong global sisterhood.

From My Desk

I have a bit of a personal confession here—I completely get the magic of this trend because it’s exactly how I found my own closest friends! We didn’t meet at work or school; we met through a "speed dating for friends" service. It taught me that sometimes, you have to intentionally step into a curated space to find your people.

Because I know firsthand how life-changing these unconventional connections are, I vet group travel experiences with an incredibly critical eye. When I align you with premium partners, I ensure the demographic, the pace, and the five-star comfort match your lifestyle perfectly.

In fact, I am so passionate about the power of these connections that I am currently behind the scenes designing something entirely proprietary. I'm formulating a brand-new, ultra-curated concept centered around literature, luxury, and connection (think: The Gilded Page). I'm keeping the exact details under lock and key for just a little longer while it's being perfected, but spaces will be incredibly limited. If you want to be the first to know when the chapters of this exclusive experience unfold, make sure you are on my radar.

You just have to pack your bags; I handle the vetting, the safety net, and the curation.

Stop waiting for the group chat to agree on a date. Your next great adventure—and your next circle of lifelong friends—is waiting for you. Let's find the perfect women-focused itinerary or curated small group for your next escape.

Contact me today and let's get you out into the world!

The Luxury of Not Knowing: Why 'The How' is My Job, Not Yours

The 2026 traveler is exhausted by "options." In an era of infinite scrolls, the real luxury is curation. I have intentionally built my agency around strong strategic partners, focusing on partners like CIE Tours and Globus who have spent decades perfecting the art of the "frictionless" journey.

Ideal Tours for the Modern Woman

  • The Active Intimacy of CIE: CIE’s 2026 Walking & Hiking series is a game-changer for women. With no more than 16 guests, you can explore the Slieve League cliffs or the trails of Cork and Kerry with a group small enough to feel like a circle of friends, yet large enough to provide a built-in safety net.
  • The Flexible Freedom of Globus: For those who crave independence, Globus 'Choice Touring', allows you to customize your daily discovery. It’s the perfect balance for the woman who wants the security of a guided tour but the soul of an intentional wanderer.

The Whycation Angle

Your "Why" shouldn't be buried under a mountain of research. Whether you are seeking a solo-friendly 'Escape' or a culturally immersive Irish odyssey, I leverage my background to refine the logistics so you can focus on living your life—peacefully and intentionally.

Even while I've been enjoying my own time away this week, I'm evaluating how high-traffic environments manage flow and friction. I take those insights back to my planning desk to ensure that when you book a CIE or Globus journey through me, you aren't just buying a trip; you're investing in a perfectly architected experience."

Ready to hand over the 'mental load' of travel? Let’s architect your 2026 journey with my preferred partners today.

The Courage to Connect: Why Group Tours are the Secret to Solo Travel Success Industry Pulse

The 2026 "Me-Moon" movement isn't about hiding away in a hotel room—it’s about women reclaiming their sense of adventure without the "planning fatigue." Guided tours are seeing a surge because they provide a built-in support system that traditional solo travel lacks.

What it means for luxury travelers

For the woman who values her time, luxury is "Frictionless Travel." It’s having a local expert from CIE Tours handle the luggage and the language barriers so you can focus on the woman sitting next to you who also loves 18th-century art or rugged coastal hikes.

Whycation Angle: From Fear to Friendship

Many women fear the "lonely dinner." But on a structured group tour, the social ROI is immediate. These trips are designed with "ice-breaker" moments—like welcome drinks and group dinners that facilitate deep, global friendships. You aren't just visiting Italy; you’re visiting Italy with a new inner circle.

"I tell my solo clients: your first 'Whycation' is like a bridge. You keep your independence (yes, you still get your 'me-time'!), but you gain the confidence that comes from a vetted safety net. I personally love Globus for their 'Escapes' because they are the perfect length to 'test the waters' of solo travel."

Stop waiting for 'someone to go with.' Your travel tribe is already waiting for you.

Let’s find the perfect 2026 tour to get you started.

Why the "Me-Moon" Needs a Travel Architect

While big ocean cruise lines are pivoting toward the family market, solo women travelers in 2026 are finding their home on the world’s rivers. But here’s the real trend: The Solo Hybrid. Women aren't just booking a cruise; they are pairing the social ease of a river ship with the soul-deep discovery of a private land journey.

Here’s why you shouldn't DIY this specific puzzle.

✨ 3 Tips for the Ultimate Solo "Cruise & Land" Pairing

  1. Sequence for Connection

    • Most solo travelers make the mistake of doing their land journey first. Reverse it. Start with the river cruise to find your "tribe" in an intimate setting. By the time you transition to land, you’ll have a fresh group of friends to coordinate with for dinner in your next city.

  2. Master the "Seamless Switch"

    • The most stressful moment for a solo traveler is the "in-between"—moving from ship to train or boutique hotel. I specialize in lines like Tauck, which offers waived single supplements on both their river cruises and their land itineraries, ensuring a single point of contact (and safety) from start to finish.

  3. The "Slow-Down" Extension

    • Use land journeys to reach the "Second Cities" ships can't touch. After a high-energy cruise on the Danube, I can pair you with a wellness-focused retreat in the Austrian Lake District  to decompress before heading home.

🛡️ Why Book This With Me?

In a world of "family-first" mega-ships, I am your advocate for the solo experience. When we work together, you get:

  • Hidden Inventory: I have access to dedicated solo cabins and specific solo-only sailings that often don't appear on standard search engines.

  • The Safety Net: If a transfer is missed or a flight is delayed, you aren't standing on a platform alone. You have me on speed dial to handle the logistics while you grab a coffee.

  • Zero "Solo Tax": I actively track the limited-time supplement waivers across AmaWaters, Avalon, and Emerald. I make sure your budget goes toward the experience, not a "single occupant" fee.

Ready to design your 2026 solo escape? Don't just book a trip—let’s architect a journey. DM me to start planning!

The New Era of Luxury: Why 2026 is the Year of the Woman Traveler

There’s a quiet revolution happening in the world of high-end travel.

If 2025 was about reclaiming glamour, 2026 is officially the year of Grace, Space, and the Solo Female Explorer. As we look at the trends shaping our Monday Travel horizons, one thing is clear: luxury is no longer just about the thread count of your sheets or the vintage of your champagne. For the modern woman—whether she’s traveling solo, joining a curated group of like-minded peers, or leading her own pack—luxury is now defined by meaningful transformation.

Here is what is trending in our world, and why now is the time to claim your "Main Character Energy" on the global stage.

1. The Rise of "Unlimited Luxe" and Solo Confidence

The data doesn’t lie: women are now the driving force of the travel economy. The luxury travel industry is projected to reach a staggering $2.63 trillion by 2030, and a significant portion of that growth is fueled by women with disposable income who are no longer waiting for a partner to see the world.

In 2026, 90% of women over 50 report a preference for escorted tours that offer a blend of independence and community. We’re seeing a pivot toward "Unlimited Luxe"—where the logistics (private drivers, VIP airport meet-and-greet, and 24/7 digital concierges) are so seamless they become invisible, leaving you free to simply be.

2. "The Alignment Journey": Mind, Body, & Spirit in Southeast Asia

Luxury in 2026 is moving away from the "cost of the treatment" and toward the "depth of the transformation." My clients are trading traditional pampering for Integrative Wellness in the heart of Southeast Asia. It’s a recognition that true health requires your nervous system, your spirit, and your body to finally be in the same room at the same time.

  • The Trend: Moving from "Anti-Aging" to "Somatic Healing"—using ancient traditions to release stored stress and recalibrate your internal compass.
  • Where to find it: We are looking at immersive sanctuaries like Kamalaya Koh Samui in Thailand, which focuses on "Embracing Change" and emotional harmony. In Bali, the focus has shifted to Neurogenic Reset programs in Ubud, where private sound healing and breathwork are used to regulate the vagus nerve and restore a sense of deep, unshakable peace.

3. Taste Tourism: More Than Just a Menu

Culinary travel is currently the fastest-growing segment in luxury. But for the sophisticated female traveler, it’s not just about the Michelin stars; it’s about "Maker Proximity."  75% of travelers now choose destinations based on culinary activities. In 2026, the luxury is in the access—private cooking sessions with Italian nonnas, or wine-tasting with female vintners in the emerging valleys of Georgia and Moldova.  (And no, sadly, we haven't found a direct flight to Genovia yet, but Moldova is much more "royalty-adjacent" than you'd think!)

4. Destinations on the Rise: Beyond the Expected

While Italy and Greece remain perennial favorites, the "discerning few" are looking for Crowd Control. The ultimate status symbol in 2026 is Space.

Destinations that are trending for Women travelers

BhutanThe "High-Value, Low-Volume" model ensures you have the Himalayas almost to yourself.

MoroccoPrivate Nile experiences and luxury desert camps offer a soulful, "quietly spectacular" escape.

Japan (Onomichi)A move away from the crowds of Kyoto toward slow-travel coastal serenity and private onsens.

AntarcticaSmall-ship luxury expeditions are seeing a surge in solo female bookings for "final frontier" reflection.

My Expert Take: Why This Matters for You

Whether you are 45 or 105, your travel should be an investment in your personal narrative. We are moving away from FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out) and toward "Slow-Mo"—longer stays, fewer hotels, and deeper connections.

I specialize in bridging the gap between the desire for solo adventure and the comfort of high-end security. You don’t have to choose between being brave and being pampered; in 2026, you deserve both.

Ready to design your next chapter? Let’s find your space.

Cathy

Planning for 2026? Think "Opposites Attract":

  • The Deep Dive: Consider an immersive land journey through Vietnam and Cambodia. From the sunrise over Angkor Wat to private villa stays in Da Nang, SE Asia offers the ultimate "slow-mo" cultural immersion.

  • The Seamless Sail: If you prefer to unpack once and let the world float by, European River Cruises are seeing record-early bookings. Navigating the Danube or the Rhine on a luxury boutique ship is the gold standard for women traveling solo within a safe, social, and incredibly pampered environment.

The Ocean State of Mind: How the "Whycation" is Redefining Luxury at Sea

In the world of high-end travel, a quiet revolution is taking place. For decades, the "Luxury Cruiser" was defined by their loyalty—staying with one line for years to collect tiered perks.

But as we settle into 2026, the data tells a different story. According to the latest Hilton 2026 Trends Report, brand loyalty is no longer the primary driver. Instead, guests are prioritizing emotional motivations and high-touch experiences over labels. They aren't just looking for a cabin; they are looking for a "Whycation"—a journey designed specifically to satisfy their personal why.

Embracing the "Ocean State of Mind

One brand leading this charge is Explora Journeys, which has introduced the industry to the "Ocean State of Mind." This isn't just a marketing slogan; it’s a design philosophy that shifts the focus from a "cruise ship" to a "floating boutique hotel."

It’s about Hushpitality—the luxury of space, the absence of lines, and the presence of intentional silence. When travelers pivot to new lines today, they are moving toward environments that feel less like a tour and more like a restorative, curated lifestyle.

The "Why" Behind the Brands

If loyalty is no longer enough to keep you in one place, your choice should be dictated by your specific travel "Why." Here is how the top high-touch lines stack up for your 2026 Whycation:

Explora Journeys | The Why: Design & Wellness

The Experience: Perfect for the aesthetic-driven traveler who wants a cosmopolitan, yacht-like atmosphere. Every suite features a private terrace, and the "Ocean Wellness" zones are designed to treat the sea as a restorative element.

Seabourn | The Why: The Private Club Connection

The Experience: Best for those seeking an intimate, "yachtie" vibe. With a nearly 1:1 staff-to-guest ratio, the service is incredibly intuitive and social. Think "Caviar in the Surf" beach parties and an active, community-focused atmosphere.

Crystal | The Why: Personalized Immersion

The Experience: For the traveler who wants to be "seen" and remembered. Now backed by Abercrombie & Kent, Crystal offers legendary butler service and some of the most intellectually deep, expert-led shore excursions in the industry.

Regent Seven Seas | The Why: Frictionless Luxury

The Experience: The ultimate choice for the traveler who wants zero logistics. From business-class airfare to unlimited shore excursions, everything is handled. Your only job is to show up and be pampered.

The Hilton report makes one thing clear: as travel becomes more about the "Why," it also becomes more complex.

Choosing between the vibrant, social intimacy of Seabourn and the refined, butler-serviced elegance of Crystal isn't about which one is "better"—it's about which one fits your current stage of life. I help you navigate these nuances so your next voyage isn't just a trip, but a perfect match for your state of mind.

How "Whycations" are Preserving Our World's Heritage

Industry Pulse: The Modern Textile Tourist

The 2026 "Whycation" trend proves that travel has shifted. We are moving from "bucket lists" to "passion paths." Whether it’s Fiber Art Workshops or heritage-based Andean Textile Tours, travelers want to return home with a new skill or a deeper connection to their craft.

Variety in Textile Tourism

It’s not only knitting retreats. 2026 sees a surge in:

  • Indigo & Ikat Immersion: "Farm-to-Fabric" tours in Laos and Thailand where travelers work with active indigo vats.
  • The European Patchwork Meeting: A massive international event in France (September 2026) featuring hundreds of museum-quality quilts.
  • Sashiko & Kimono Factories: High-end Japanese textile journeys that offer VIP entry to working silk mills and ancient stitching workshops.

What it means for luxury travelers

Luxury is no longer just the hotel; it’s the exclusivity of the experience. It’s getting a seat at the table for a sold-out textile journey in Indonesia or having a private guide translate for a master weaver in Uzbekistan.

The Whycation Angle: Variety & Connection

The "Why" is the universal thread. For a textile lover, it might be:

  • Traditional Mastery: Learning backstrap weaving in Peru.
  • Modern Innovation: Attending the Festival of Quilts in the UK.
  • Cultural Preservation: Supporting eco-friendly batik artisans who are saving their environment through their art.

"My specialty isn't knowing everything about textiles, or golf, or photography—it’s knowing who to call. I provide the bridge between your curiosity and the world’s most talented creators. I navigate the waitlists and the language barriers so you can focus on the 'Why' behind your journey."

"Ready to ignite your passion in a new corner of the world?

Let's talk about the 'Why' behind your next trip.

Why "Hushpitality" is the Ultimate Mental "Whycation"

Industry Pulse: The Luxury of Silence

In 2026, the loudest statement you can make is saying nothing at all. As we move further into a hyper-connected decade, the Hilton 2026 Trends Report has identified Hushpitality—the intentional pursuit of quiet—as a leading driver for luxury travelers.

It’s a response to "digital saturation." Travelers are no longer just looking for a "place to stay"; they are looking for a state of mind. In fact, 56% of travelers now say their primary motivation is to "rest and recharge," prioritizing mental health and nature immersion over traditional sightseeing.

The "Whycation" Angle: Refilling Your Cup

If Inheritourism was about finding your roots, a Hushpitality Whycation is about finding your breath. This trend isn't just about "doing nothing"—it’s about Pratyahara the art of "minimal doing" to allow your nervous system to settle.

  • The Emotional ROI: You return home changed, not just rested. It’s about the restorative power of silence that sharpens your perception of the world.
  • The "Solo-Plus" Strategy: We see a surge in solo travelers and those adding "quiet days" to the end of a family trip to secure that essential internal reset.

Curated Escapes: Where the "Hush" is Built-In

To truly fill your cup with the sounds of the space around you, you need a destination where silence is a structural priority:

  • The Secular Monastery: Eremito, Italy  Located in Umbria, this is the gold standard for a digital detox. With no Wi-Fi or cell signal, dinner is eaten in candlelight and silence. It’s for the professional who needs a "hard reset."
  • The Marine Sanctuary: Sailrock, South Caicos  Escape the "performance luxury" of crowded hubs. Here, the primary soundscape is the rhythmic "Blue Mind" effect of the Atlantic—uninterrupted by jet skis or crowds.
  • The Himalayan Breath: Vileen Rishikesh, India  Perfect for a "Nervous-System Reset," this retreat focuses on mantra chanting and gentle treks where nearly 95% of guests start their stay with a wellness manager to align their itinerary with their body's actual needs.
  • The Island of Slow: Gundari, Folegandros  A minimalist cliffside resort in Greece that trades the cruise-ship noise of Santorini for private infinity pools and the "hush" of a sleepy fishing village.
  • The Rainforest Retreat: Elements of Byron, Australia For those who find peace in movement, this property integrates nature-based experiences like rainforest meditation trails and birdwatching walks to help you ground yourself.

Advisor Expertise: Designing for Stillness

As your advisor, I look for "invisible" markers of peace that a search engine might miss:

  1. Acoustic Vetting: I prioritize low-density layouts like those at Nayara     Resorts, where architecture uses distance rather than signs to preserve     your privacy.
  2. Frictionless Logistics: Silence is easily broken by travel stress. I use     digital hospitality tools and biometric check-ins to ensure your arrival is as quiet as your stay.
  3. The "Reading Retreat": 53% of travelers are now seeking "reading     retreats." I can help curate a destination that specifically offers the right lighting, seating, and stillness to finally finish that book stack.

Is your "Why" for 2026 about finding clarity in the quiet? Let’s architect a journey that allows you to hear yourself again

Why Inheritourism is the Ultimate Legacy "Whycation", 23MAR26

Industry Pulse: The Return to Roots

In 2026, travel has become "precision-focused on who we are." According to recent Hilton Trends, Inheritourism—trips designed to explore family heritage—is a top driver for multigenerational groups. With 73% of travelers saying their travel style is shaped by their parents, these trips aren't just about the past; they are about passing the torch to the next generation.

The "Whycation" Angle: Connecting the Dots

An Inheritourism trip isn't a standard sightseeing tour—it's a detective mission. It’s about the "Why" of your own existence.

  • The Emotional ROI: Imagine standing in the exact Sicilian village where your great-grandmother learned to cook, or visiting a family plot in a quiet Irish churchyard. These are meaningful, hands-on experiences that provide a "return home changed" feeling rather than just a "relaxed" one.

  • The Multigenerational Magic: These trips are the revival of family exploration. They give kids a sense of identity and provide seniors a way to share their legacy in person rather than through a photo album.

Advisor Expertise: Your Heritage Toolkit

Planning a heritage trip requires a "white-glove" strategy. You don't want to spend your precious vacation time searching for records on a laptop. Here is the digital toolkit to ensure you arrive "heritage-ready":

  • For the Pre-Trip Hunt: Find A Grave is a lifesaver. I recommend my clients use this to pinpoint specific burial sites before we book the local driver, ensuring we don't spend hours wandering the wrong cemetery.

  • For the "Old Neighborhood": Google Earth Street View is a secret weapon for Inheritourism. Use it to "scout" ancestral homes in advance so you know exactly what the building looks like today versus the old family sketches.

  • For Seamless Re-entry: Mobile Passport Control (MPC). After an emotional journey through your family history, the last thing you want is a 2-hour customs line. I ensure all my families have this set up to breeze through the "Express" lane upon return.

Pro-Tip: "Don't Pack the Originals"

When traveling for heritage research, leave the original family photos and birth certificates at home.  Baggage gets lost, but digital scans are forever.  Create a "Digital Heritage Binder" you can access from your phone anywhere in the world.

Let’s Plan Your Journey

Ready to turn your DNA results into a 10-day immersive journey? Whether it’s finding a long-lost cousin in Eastern Europe or taking a private cooking class in your ancestral village, let's architect a trip that honors your family's story.

What is your "Why" for 2026? If it’s about discovering where you came from, inquire now to schedule a consultation. Let’s make your Inheritourism Whycation a reality.

Why Japan is the "Whycation" King, 16MAR26

Industry Pulse: The Japan Surge

The numbers are in: searches for Japan travel have skyrocketed by 71% this year. Travelers aren't just looking for a vacation; they are looking for a deep dive into culture, nostalgia, and innovation. With the yen remaining favorable for US travelers and the DisneySea 25th "Sparkling Jubilee" kicking off next month, Japan has moved from a "bucket list" item to the "must-book-now" destination of 2026.

The "Whycation" Angle: Anime, Ghibli, & Disney Magic

Japan is the ultimate playground for hobby-specific travel, offering that immersive feel that standard theme parks just can't match:

  • The Disney Moment: Tokyo Disney Resort is the epicenter of "Whycation" right now, especially with the "it's a small world with Groot" overlay and the upcoming Jubilee celebrations.

  • The Ghibli Glow-up: New expansion phases at Ghibli Park are officially open, perfect for fans wanting to "live" in their favorite films.

Advisor Expertise: The Tech-Forward Arrival

A "white-glove" experience starts long before you reach your Ryokan. To ensure your journey is as serene as a Zen garden, I equip my clients with a specific Digital Travel Toolkit. These aren't just for domestic trips—they are essential for international seamlessness:

  • For the Return Home: Mobile Passport Control (MPC) This is my #1 recommendation for families. It’s a free app that allows you to bypass the massive customs lines when returning to the U.S. You can submit your family’s declaration together on one device and head to a dedicated "Express" lane.

  • For Navigating the Airport: The MyTSA App Wondering if you can bring that delicate Ghibli Museum figurine in your carry-on? The "Can I Bring?" tool is a lifesaver. Plus, it gives you real-time, crowd-sourced security wait times at U.S. international hubs.

  • For In-Country Ease: Visit Japan Web This is the official digital portal for your immigration and customs declarations into Japan. I help my clients set this up in advance so you can walk past the paper-form queues and straight into your vacation.

Pro-Tip: "Arrive early" is old news. My goal is for you to arrive prepared. I recommend downloading these apps and setting up your profiles at least 72 hours before departure.

Let’s Plan Your Journey

Ready to see the "Jubilee Blue" at DisneySea or find your own Ghibli-esque village? Let's take the stress out of the logistics so you can focus on the magic.

What is your "Why" for 2026? > Whether it’s reconnecting with family at Tokyo DisneySea or finally seeing the art that inspired your favorite films, your travel deserves more than a standard itinerary. I specialize in turning hobbies and passions into life-changing journeys.

Inquire now to schedule a complimentary consultation and let’s make your "Whycation" a reality.

Why Your Next Trip Deserves a Whycation

Luxury travel is evolving quickly in 2026. Travelers are craving more meaning, more intention, and more support than ever before and the industry is shifting right along with them. Each week, I review the latest travel trends, global updates, and industry insights to help my clients navigate an increasingly complex landscape with clarity and confidence.

Here’s what’s shaping luxury travel right now, and why having the right advisor in your corner makes all the difference.

🌍 The Luxury Travel Landscape: Intentional, Immersive, and Purpose‑Driven

Across the industry, one theme is unmistakable: luxury travelers want depth, not noise.

They’re choosing:

  • Destinations that feel restorative rather than rushed
  • Shoulder‑season escapes to avoid crowds and overtourism
  • Itineraries built around culture, cuisine, and connection
  • Experiences that feel personal, not performative

This shift is redefining what “luxury” means. It’s no longer about the most expensive suite or the flashiest resort. It’s about space, meaning, and emotional return on investment.

Travelers want to feel something.  Not just see something.

And that’s exactly where a Whycation begins.

✈️ Airlines, Cruises & Hotels: A Week of Constant Movement

This week brought a wave of updates across the travel ecosystem — the kind that remind us how quickly plans can change and how valuable expert guidance truly is.

Airlines

Schedule adjustments, weather‑related disruptions, and shifting international routes continue to impact travelers. Even premium cabins are booking out earlier than usual as demand for comfort rises.

Cruises

Luxury ocean and river lines are reporting record interest in immersive itineraries — think longer port days, boutique excursions, and culturally rich programming. Expedition cruising continues to surge, especially in regions like the Arctic, Iceland, and Patagonia.

Hotels & Resorts

High‑end properties are leaning into wellness, privacy, and personalization. Think private‑chef dining, curated cultural experiences, and suites designed for restorative stays rather than rushed itineraries.

In a week where so much is in motion, having someone who can interpret the noise, and translate it into a seamless plan, becomes invaluable.

💎 What Affluent Travelers Are Prioritizing Right Now

Luxury travelers are making decisions differently this year. They’re asking deeper questions:

  • “How do I want this trip to feel?”
  • “What do I need more of in my life right now?”
  • “Where can I go that aligns with my values, not just my bucket list?”

The top trends shaping their choices:

  • Slow travel: Fewer destinations, longer stays, richer experiences
  • Cultural immersion: Food, festivals, artisan workshops, local guides
  • Privacy & space: Villas, small‑ship cruises, boutique hotels
  • Restorative design: Wellness retreats, nature‑forward escapes
  • Shoulder‑season luxury: Italy, France, Iceland, Japan, and the Mediterranean

Luxury is no longer about doing more.  It’s about doing what matters.

🌱 Economic & Cultural Forces Behind the Shift

Even affluent travelers are becoming more intentional with their time and resources. Economic uncertainty is encouraging people to plan smarter, not faster. At the same time, younger luxury travelers — Millennials and Gen Z — are driving demand for personalization, authenticity, and digital‑first planning.

They want a trip that feels like them, not like everyone else.

And they want a professional who can translate their vision into something seamless, elevated, and emotionally resonant.

🌟 The Rise of the Whycation: Luxury With Purpose

A Whycation is more than a vacation. It’s a travel experience built around your why, the emotional, personal, and restorative reasons you’re traveling in the first place.

A Whycation is:

  • Designed with intention
  • Rooted in your values
  • Crafted to restore, inspire, and reconnect
  • Built to avoid stress, crowds, and decision fatigue
  • Tailored to the season of life you’re in

In a world where travel can feel chaotic, crowded, or unpredictable, a Whycation becomes the most meaningful form of luxury.

It’s not about escaping your life.  It’s about returning to it renewed.

🧭 Why a Travel Advisor Matters More Than Ever

This week’s trends highlight a truth I see every day:

Luxury travelers don’t just need someone to book a trip. They need someone to architect an experience.

As a certified travel professional specializing in luxury, adventure, and restorative Whycations, I bring:

  • Crisis‑proof planning when the unexpected happens
  • Real‑time support so you’re never navigating disruptions alone
  • Access to vetted luxury partners you won’t find on your own
  • Itineraries designed around your emotional priorities
  • Shoulder‑season strategies to avoid crowds and maximize value
  • Cultural immersion curated with care
  • A calm, intentional planning process that honors your time and energy

Luxury travel is personal. Your advisor should be, too.
